Bible Memory Verse

I have started a Bible study called, "In My Father's House: Women Relating to God as Father." I have promised myself I would be committed to learning each week's Bible memory verse. For some reason, I'm having a difficult time memorizing the verse (Could it be the two kids, the house, the laundry, the full-time job, the master's classes...?). Even with all of these distractions, I really want to make it a priority. My solution to learning each week's verse is to post it on my blog as a visual reminder and an encouragement to myself. Feel free to join in!

Seven Year Portraits

Josie and I did a short portrait session today to commemorate her seventh year. We had fun playing in the woods beind our house.

School Story

Today while working with a student in reading, she said to me, "If I fail this year, I have to go to Christian school. I don't want to go to Christian school, because I don't want to my hand to hurt from getting slapped with a ruler all the time."

Not sure what school she's talking about, but I don't think my kids will be going there.

Mom of the Year?

I just read my sister's blog, and she was talking about letting my nephew eat cookies for breakfast. Well Laura, I don't think anyone will take your "Mommy Button" away for that. I have so many "Mother of the Year" moments, it's hard to remember them all.

Today, Cody took Jake to school and called me not long after.

"Did you know that today is picture day?" he said. I did know, but I had forgotten. Then I remember what Jake had been wearing when he left for school....ratty knit shorts, a sweatshirt that didn't necessarily go with the shorts, and brown church-looking shoes. And you should see his hair! The Wal Mart haircut we got a few weeks ago has not been so good. We can't even get his hair to lay down when it is wet. I did take him some nicer looking clothes to change into, and his sweet teachers at his school said they would find some gel to try to get his hair to stop sticking up (at least long enough for the picture).

Can't wait to see the pictures!

Future Teacher?

Today, I went to tell Josie something after school. When I got to her classroom door, I saw her sitting in her teacher's chair in front of the carpet reading a book aloud to some other 2nd graders. She looked just like a "real" teacher, showing the pictures from each page as she read. Her teacher told me that Josie asked permission to read the other kids a story. Mrs. Campbell gave her permission. Not much later, Josie said, "But Mrs. Campbell they're not listening." Before her teacher could respond, Josie said, "Oh, now I know why it's so hard to be a teacher!"

So here is a thank you to all those teachers who touch the lives of kids every day. Thank you Mrs. Campbell, Mrs. Moore, Mrs. Jorge, Mrs. Hill, Mrs. Gonzalez, Ms. Melanie, Ms. Samantha, and Ms. Curry especially for taking care of my babies. The care and love you give or have given them means more than you'll ever know.

A New Game

When I asked Jake what he did today, he said, "We played rops and cobbers."

I questioned him a little more and he said they also played firemen.
I'm not sure if Jake was the rop or the cobber.

Looking Forward to Halloween

We have been discussing Halloween costumes this morning. Josie is pretty set on being Sharpay from High School Musical. I am trying to talk her into using her real hair (blond like Sharpay's) instead of buying a wig.

Jake keeps changing his mind. He has thought about a firefighter, a frog, a football player, and everything else I suggest, but he keeps going back to a bear. He really wants to be a blue bear. I'm not sure if he is going to stick with this idea or not.

I have a feeling Halloween will be lots of fun on our street this year, since it falls on a Friday.
