Glimpses of Summer

Just a few pictures from our day. We are having a ball already, and the weekend has just begun. Summer's not here, but we got a little taste of it. The kids are at such fun ages. It was so much fun to watch them swim and fish. We caught a few perch for Daddy and PaPa to use as catfish bait, and Josie even learned to bait her own hook (pictures to come!). We ended our night with sparklers and toasted marshmallows. We are so blessed!

Kid-Sized Gardening

A few weeks ago, I bought gardening kits at Lowes to do with the kids. They came with everything needed to start pepper and green bean plants from seed.

Jake was in charge of the beans.
Josie was the chief of the peppers. We're excited about watching the seeds sprout and then transplanting them into one of our flower beds.

Yardwork

Cody has put a lot of time into working int he yard this past week. Last Saturday, I came home from my Literacy Coaching Conference to find that he had made flower beds around the deck.

This week he has put rock around our front flower beds.
He also surprised me with 2 trees and a Vitex plant for the backyard. Our tomato plants are growing very slowly, but hopefully my monster chicken will bring our garden good luck. We gave up on growing squash of any kind, because we have squash vine borers and can't seem to get rid of them.
I love this time of year when it's not too hot, but it's just right for working in the yard.

Playing Possum

Jake came in earlier and said there was some kind of animal in our yard. I asked if it was a cat, and was told "NO!" Turns out is was a possum--and after squirting it with water, we determined it was a dead possum. Not sure how it found it's way out of the woods and into the neighborhood.

Bluebonnet Festival

Jake ended his week with Granny and PaPa at the Burnet Bluebonnet Festival. Now he's back here with us, getting ready for a new week of school. It is hard to believe that there are only 30-something school days left before summer, not that I'm counting.

Just for Fun

No stories to go along with these pictures. They just make me smile.

Being a Spivey

Being a Spivey involves lizard hunting, actually any kind of hunting.
When you're the only girl, you learn to stand up for yourself. This girl reeled in a big catfish, but she still didn't want to hold it for the picture.

Shooting is a family pastime.

A Week In Paradise

Jake is spending another week at Camp Granny. Granny's retirement has been a big bonus for him. The highlight of my day when he is there is getting my daily email with his picture. Looks like way more fun than TAKS practice.

Easter Eggs

We love being at Granny's and dyeing Easter eggs with cousins.

Jake was the first to finish his allotment of eggs. It didn't take long before he was asking if he could shoot the eggs. Josie and Cash were a little more careful, taking their time to create their masterpieces.

Round Top Chair

We brought some very fun treasures home from our Good Friday adventures. Josie and I spent Friday with our friend Amy antiquing in Round Top, Texas. What an experience! We should have rented a U-Haul. I could have filled it up easily with all the wonderful junk.

Josie started a fan collection, and I came home with this red chair.

We carried it with us to the lake this weekend to see how it looked in pictures.

I love antiquing. The possibilities of projects are endless. If my car would have been bigger, I would have bought a whole set of lockers. Cody's relieved that I didn't think of the U-Haul idea any earlier.
