Not Me Wednesday

I did not take my children to the doctor on Monday with my shirt on inside out. My 8 year old did not have to point it out to me 2 hours after we got dressed and left the house.

I also did not make a "homemade" cough syrup for that same 8 year old because the real stuff was not doing the trick.

I would never yell for Superdad when that same child coughed so hard she puked -- several times. Of course, a good mom like me would not start gagging immediately when something like that happened.

Meet the Flintstones

What happens when a creative girl finds a bag of leftover fabric?

Combine a few snips of the scissors and some safety pins
and the result is a gown reminiscent of Wilma and Betty.

In Sickness and In Health

This week has been the "In sickness" week at our house. Cody has had an upper respiratory infection. Jake and I have both had a nasty stomach bug. Josie is the only one who has escaped so far. Hopefully we are all on the road to recovery.

Thank goodness we have had SuperDad. Yesterday he got the kids ready for school, made lunches, and dropped them off. Then he had to go back and pick up Jake from school because he still wasn't feeling well. He picked up a prescription for me and had to go to Target and pick out a 9-year old girl's birthday present for Josie. Then he had to take the gift back up to the school so Josie would have it for the party that started right after school. He still managed to work several hours and then come home to fix supper for us. All this and laundry too!

SuperDad even managed to squeeze in some duck hunting on Thursday. Here is a picture from his trip.

One Step Closer

I made 90% on my comps that I took yesterday. Everyone has to score 80% or better to have "passed," so I was pleased with my score. That means all I have do to now is finish the class I am in and one more, and I will be done with my Masters degree! Thank goodness...I am tired of being tied to my laptop several hours a week. I will officially graduate in December, and then all I will have to do is take the state test to be certified to be a principal.

We have started thinking about Jake's birthday coming up right before Halloween. I asked him yesterday what kind of party he wants, and he said, "a shotgun party." I'm not sure what kind of shotgun party we could have for a 5-year old. He is definitely Daddy's boy. I have given some thought to a shotgun cake, but I am not even sure how to do that...camo maybe? Any suggestions?

C is for Cap

Tomorrow is Cap Day in PreK, and Jake is ready. We have a full weekend ahead of us. Cody will be busy with the Member-Guest weekend at the golf course beginning tomorrow night. I have to take a test all day on Saturday as I am getting close to the end of my Masters courses. The kids are spending the night tomorrow with friends since I have to be in Cypress Saturday by 8:30. Maybe we can all rest on Sunday.

Should I Be Worried?

At the supper table tonight, I was asking the kids about their day at school. We started talking about homework. You might not realize that PreK students do have homework. This week they are working on the letter C, and Jake has to cut out a picture of something that starts with a C and glue it on his paper. Josie, Cody and I were naming possibilities...cat, car, couch, costume. Jake piped up and said, "How about s..s..s..pumpkin?" Maybe he was in the bathroom when they talked about C???

Goal Accomplished

Josie has been working on her back walkover in tumbling, and she has it! Next up...front walkover and back handspring!

Still a Little Summer Left

It's still warm enough for swimsuits and sprinkler runs here in our neck of the woods. We've had rainy, cloudy weather the last few days, but the sun has managed to peek through today.

More School Stories

Josie had a paper called "If You Were..." in her folder today. It was one of those getting-to-know-you, beginning-of-school, kind of assignments. Here are a few of her answers (exactly as she had written them):

If you were an animal, what would you be?
a cheeta

If you were a musical instrument, which would you be?
a drum (yeah, I can definitely see this one)

If you were a flower, which kind would you be?
putoonyu

And here's my personal favorite...

If you were a psychiatrist, who would be your first patient?
my mom

School Stories

I was talking to Jake about preK this afternoon on the way home. I wanted to make sure he was being polite and respectful and saying "yes, ma'am" and "no, ma'am." When I asked him about it, he said "Yes, in Ms. Jones's class." He went on to say they have sticker chart and earn stickers for saying "yes, ma'am." Apparently he already has one whole row filled up.

Then I asked him about his afternoon teacher's class. "Do you say 'yes, ma'am' in Ms. Cooper's class too?"

He looked at me like I was crazy and said, "Well she doesn't have a sticker chart."

Our Supper Conversation

Jake: "Mom, I know where eggs come from."

Me: "Really, where?"

Jake: "Chickens."

Me: "Do you know what comes from pigs?"

Jake: "Mud."
