You were probably thinking this was going to be a post where I complain about my husband, but that's not the honeymoon I'm talking about.
No, I'm thinking of the start of school. You know what I mean. The beginning always seems sort of idyllic, and things go smoothly. Sound familiar? No, here at the Spivey house, we're in the real world now.
You know the real world--someone always has a runny nose or a cough. Breathing treatments are already starting. The homework begins (even in PreK). Diet Coke gets spilled on Mom before the first bell even rings. Surprise meetings....rushing to afterschool commitments...forgetting your wallet at home when you have $150 worth of groceries rung up in the checkout line... You get the picture, right?
On a brighter note, no husband complaining here. When we got home from cheer tonight, Cody had our steak for supper just about ready. We are continually blessed to have him to take care of our family.

Starting School
There's something magical about the first day of school, whether you are a prek-er or a 3rd grader. Maybe it's the new clothes or the freshly sharpened pencils or the never-been-used crayons or the red and blue nap mat. Maybe it's the promise of new friends and adventures. Whatever it is, there's nothing quite like that first day.
When I asked how Jake's first day of PreK was, he said he learned the lunchkit rules. Apparently knowing where to put your lunchkit was the most memorable part of big boy school. I think I had a harder time with putting him on the bus than he did.
Josie's says 3rd graders have a "very, very, very short recess." I suspect that this is just the first lesson for the year in growing up.

Celebrate!
In celebration of 8 years of blessings...
8 Things About Our Drama Queen...
1. Loves to cheer, dance, and tumble
2. Loves junk food
(it's genetic-probably all the hot fudge sundaes I ate when I was pregnant with her)
3. She can make a friend in any situation.
4. We sometimes call her Junie B.
5. She's sweet to her brother (he had to sleep on the couch when she spent the night at a friend's house, because he couldn't stand to be without her)
6. Likes coloring, making pictures for other people, and creating things out of paper
7. She's an outdoor girl--swimming, biking, ripstikking
8. Playing inside is messy and usually involves
American Girls and clubhouses and using every blanket in the house.
We love you Josie! Happy Birthday!

Counting Our Blessings
Praise God! We had a really nice rain on Friday. I think we ended up with around 5 inches. Once the storm was finally over and the lightning and thunder passed, the kids talked me into letting them play outside in the puddles. It was still showering a little, and they were soaked in minutes. Josie had a friend who spent the night with us after her birthday party, and they played out in the water long after Jake lost interest.
